Economic Impacts:
Kenya and Indonesia

Since 1991 we are also involved in looking at the economic and social impacts of the SR-CRSP technological packages developed through the program. This research concentrated on Indonesia the past year. Ten years of research in nutrition, breeding, management and social sciences, and development of human capital through training took place in West Java. Technologies to increase productivity of small holder producers in in intensive production systems were developed in West Java. Returns to research investment on technological packages are presently being measured.

Socio-economics is currently undertaking an expost evaluation of the technological package for the Dual Purpose Goat, breed developed by the SR-CRSP for western Kenya through a farming systems approach that included breeding, nutrition and management, agronomy, sociology and economics. The returns to research investments by the SR-CRSP in western Kenya are also studied.
